Agroforestry in Ghana
A technology information kit
|
Ghana's forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. In the southern
part of the country, the dense rainforests that used to cover the land have been cleared
to make way for farms and towns. In the drier north, the trees are cut for firewood and
charcoal and are browsed by livestock.
This loose-leaf information kit presents a range of technologies that farmers
can use to promote and use trees in Ghana. It has information about agroforestry
techniques, soil and water conservation, raising and planting seedlings, managing
multipurpose trees, integrating livestock with trees, and many other useful ways that
farmers can use trees to improve their food security and raise their incomes.
Intended for extension personnel and nongovernment organizations, the kit
contains 57 illustrated sheets on individual topics.
The kit was compiled through a two-week intensive writeshop in the Aburi Gardens,
Ghana.
